Fernando Lopes

Born in 1935 in Alvaiàzere, Fernando Lopes studied cinema in London. He is, along with José Fonseca Costa, Paulo Rochal and Antonio Macedo, one of the pioneer of Portuguese new cinema, the « cinema novo ». He founded and presided the first Portuguese directors’ cooperative, and managed in 1973 and 1974 the most important Portuguese show-business weekly.
