ARAIS MIN KASSAB is not only a film about women, it is also about people who are subjected to any humiliations.
I chose to direct Farida Benlyazid screenplay bacause I found the subjetc beautiful, strong and consistent. Nothing in it is artificial nor invented, it is a news tiem which arouses indignation. I have never felt so concerned and I would have liked to say much more about what people are suffering: victims of the age old institutions that are customs and traditions which make man strong and sure of his rights.
But I consider my images are not the end either of my work or Farida’s words because we and many others are continuing to think about these questions. Jillali FERHATI
