The Life And Death Of Joe Soap

Quinzaine 1983 | Short film

I made this film because I wanted to get away from the usual cartoon comedy style of animation. Joe Soap’s story is timeless, it has happened before and will happen again. It takes place during World War I, because trench warfare sums up the stupidity and waste of war more vividly than anything else. My man worry was whether my audience could accept the clay figure in a serious role. If they do, it’s because Joe’s story is universal. Nothing ever changes. Lewis John Cooper
